Today, the Annual Review of Public Health officially published “Policies of Exclusion: Implications for the Health of Immigrants and their Children” (April 1, 2019) by Krista Perreira and me.

In the article, we summarize "pathways of influence" that can shape immigrant family health as well as identification and measurement strategies in empirical research.

We then review immigrant family health in the context of research on:

  1. welfare and health care reform efforts since the 1990s

  2. immigration enforcement

  3. state and local immigrant policies

  4. access to legal residency and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program

We close with a discussion of how to improve health for everyone, including immigrant families.
